WEST NILE VIRUS

“JUST SAY NO” TO AERIAL AND RANDOM SPRAYING

It doesn’t work

Why? Pesticides such as resmethrin are designed to kill adult mosquitoes. It will not kill mosquito larvae so non-adult mosquitoes will not be affected.

Pesticides harm humans

They cause severe (immediate and/or non immediate) health effects including but not limited to: diabetes, asthma, attention deficit disorder, memory loss, cancers, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, nuerological disorders, depression, Parkinson’Ss disease and more……

What can we do to stop the spraying?

Immediately call (better yet write) to the following and tell them you do not want to suffer the health effects of random pesticide spraying. Tell them to use the larvacide method.
Call your mayor, city councilman and city hall
Call your federal and state representatives (your library has their numbers)
Call the local and state boards of health
Refer all of them to the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection website www.dep.state.ct.us and their mosquito management program and Stamford, CT website:www.ci.stamford.ct.us/HealthDepartmentEnvironmentalHealth/MosquitoVectorControl.htm. Connecticut has already been through all of this spraying controversey and has all of the facts on their website. Their major focus is now a larvacide program.

How can we help to control mosquitoes?

Check out the Connecticut website above for suggestions. They recommend emptying standing water from tires, turning over wading pools, wheelbarrows, and other water holding containers when not in use, changing water in birdbaths and wading pools weekly, cleaning clogged roof gutters and more.
